The manufacturing quality is good, and it works perfectly. This is a simple device that does exactly what you'd expect. The Amazon packaging is much more customer friendly.
Worked as well as the original charger, which I lost. And the packaging was easy to open.
We have only used the GPS and adapter a few times, but are anticipating a lengthy trip to Florida soon. I am sure this will help a great deal.
This only left one choice which was to power the unit via USB port but as you know the USB cable provided with the GPS will put the car into PC or Storage Mode rendering the GPS useless. And if you want to get really technical, in some instances Amazon was correct in stating this was NOT included in your GPS since most came with the cradle adapter/charger. End result, the cable works beautifully and charges my unit as it should. I never purchased the HTC charger but I presume that would work as well.As someone else mentioned here, I don't understand why some people gave this item a negative review. But that was too much of a hassle and considering this is a custom install, seemed somewhat pointless. But for people like me who wanted to actually charge the unit via USB this was not included.FYI.
Since it's USB however, it might charge slower compared to your conventional 12v adapter but that's not a big concern for me. Plus how hard is it to look at a close-up pic of the charger and note the plug end (USB) is different than the standard charger. However I wanted to a do a custom install on my car in which I didn't have to use the cradle, suction mount or any combination of the two. All I know is that there were only 2 cables that seemed to have worked, 1) the HTC charger and 2) this cable.
Only reason I gave it 4 stars is b/c I'm not a fan of the "accordion" style wire. the ONLY times you might encounter an issue is if your GPS has the Traffic feature included (where the antenna is part of the original charger). Since I had Amazon Prime, I decided I'd buy this cable first since it'd arrive faster. I own a Garmin Nuvi 780 which requires the use of a cradle in order to power the unit in a car.
Yes there are workarounds, ie power up the unit without cable plugged in, then plug in the USB cable after "Loading Maps" appears. Plus since it was OEM, thought I'd have a better shot as opposed to the HTC cable. If you're frustrated that you bought this item when it was already included, blame poor description of contents in the GPS product page. Not sure how this cable would work with such a unit, ie the 765T but again, it worked great for my 780.
I've never posted a review on an item here but I felt compelled to do so given how long I searched for a product like this. The goal was to have a clean install with the "set it and forget it" approach.I researched online for days and found out the reason most USB cables won't work is due to something about pin 4 being grounded or not. But this cable itself works and functions great.
I bought this to replace my original cable because it kept coming out of my cigarette lighter socket. Now this stays in the socket.
